The Jellybricks blazed onto the indie-music scene in 1997 with the release of their debut album Kinky Boot Beast. Their first single “Who is God” quickly became a hit on local radio stations and soon found its way onto the national airwaves. Within weeks, the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania–based power pop quartet was sharing the stage with acts such as Live, Goo Goo Dolls, Fuel, and Better than Ezra. Their performance with Live at the opening of the 1997 Secret Samadhi tour generated extensive media coverage, including mentions in MTV News and Spin Magazine.
The band returned to the studio after months of touring to produce their second full-length album, Soapopera, in 1999. Songs from this critically acclaimed sophomore effort found their way onto two independent movie soundtracks as well as numerous compilations. In 2001, The Jellybricks’ version of “Take It Away” appeared on Coming Up!: Independent Artists Pay Tribute to the Music of Paul McCartney, garnering reviews and coverage from major music news outlets such as rollingstone.com, mtv.com, Philadelphia Weekly, and Guitar Player.
The Jellybricks’ most recent album, Power This, showcases the band's ever-maturing songwriting skills and studio sensibilities. In the short time since its release, both fans and reviewers have declared the record the band’s best yet.
The Jellybricks consist of Larry Kennedy on guitar and vocals, Garrick Chow on bass and vocals, Bryce Connor on guitar and vocals, and Tom Kristich on drums and vocals. The band has used Macs in some capacity in producing all three of their albums. Power This was recorded almost entirely on a 1Ghz PowerMac G4 running MOTU DigitalPerformer and, as with their two previous records, was mastered on a Mac. Garrick used Roxio Toast Titanium on his PowerBook G4 to create the enhanced-CD master of Power This, which included a QuickTime movie of a video for "Can’t Be Wrong." The band shot the video themselves and edited it entirely in iMovie.
When not playing with the band, Garrick creates and records software training videos for lynda.com. He recently enlisted his bandmates as guinea pigs for his Learning Apple GarageBand title. As a result, The Jellybricks are currently using GarageBand to record demos for their next album.
